It’s time to wax the boards; it’s snow season!

The Mayfield Ski Club is starting up again. Open to 6th, 7th, and 8th- graders, the program allows students to ski, snowboard and snow blade.

The program is open to all students, regardless of their ability. Students take weekly lessons to improve their proficiency and receive stickers according to ability level that determine on which slopes they will be permitted.

The first skiing date will be January 6, 2017 if weather and snowfall permits. Students will be bussed to Boston Mills after school on Fridays for about three hours of skiing.

Mayfield Middle School has had a ski club for 21 years, and sixth-grade science teacher Mr. Ehrbar has been a part of it for 18. His favorite part of ski club is “helping a beginning student learn how to ski or snowboard.” He hopes kids will “gain confidence and problem solving skills while they learn a skill that will allow for a lifetime enjoyment of our Ohio winter weather!”

Though registration this year has ended, for those possibly interested in joining next winter, the cost of participation is $159.00 for students with their own equipment and $223.05 for students who need to rent. Transportation costs are an additional $70.00.

MMS ski club members are hoping for a snowy end to December to ensure they can enjoy shredding the powder come January.
