On September 26, 2024, beloved children’s book Wild Robot had its movie version launched. The 2016 novel by Peter Brown sold over 2 million copies worldwide and became a New York Times Best Seller. Now, it’s a CGI-animated picture.
Hollywoodreporter.com states, the movie rose to the number one spot in theaters in September with an estimated $35 million made on the first day. Overseas, the picture earned another staggering $155 million. The production costs of the film were $78 million.
As attested by Collider.com, Wild Robot passed Joker 2 significantly but was shortly behind Bob Marley: One Love for October earnings. As reported by Screenrant.com, Wild Robot is $20 million away from getting a spot in the top 25 highest grossing films in 2024 at the global box office.
DisneyWorks, who created the film is also known for animating Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon. According to AP News, the studio has grossed more than 17 billion dollars and has become the first best animated feature Oscar winner.
The cast for Wild Robot, according to People Magazine, includes a Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong’o acting as Roz, the main character of Wild Robot. Pedro Pascal voices Fink, a kind fox that helps Roz raise Brightbill, voiced by Kit Connor. Catherine O’Hara plays the role of Pinktail, a warm possum mother, and Bill Nighy is Longneck, an elder gosling who takes Brightbill under him for his first migration. Other well-known actors voicing roles in the film are Ving Rhames as Thunderbolt, Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, Mark Hamil as Thorn, and Matt Berry as Paddler.
As to the reviews and expectations about the movie, many people worldwide have seen or want to see the movie interpretation of Wild Robot. A review from Adrian Horton states that, “The Wild Robot offers the type of all-ages-welcome animated entertainment that will delight kids and leave a lump in one’s throat.” Horton added that Wild Robot’s acting down to the animation was amazing and surprised them–that DreamWorks did an amazing job on this adaptation.
Reviewer Jackson Evans said, “I wasn’t expecting anything crazy. But holy, this movie was one of the best movies I have seen in my life.”
Anna Kimmel, MMS eighth-grader was a fan of the original book and is looking forward to seeing the movie. She said that she hopes the movie “wouldn’t leave anything out, not even the minor scenes.” Another student Zenon Metyk said, “I want to watch the movie because the book was amazing when I read it in 4th grade. It gives me a feeling of nostalgia thinking about watching the movie.”
