On July 22, 2024 the Deadpool and Wolverine movie made its red carpet premiere at the David H. Koch Theater in New York. The director was Shawn Levy, and Ryan Reynolds produced the film through their own production companies Maximum Effort and 21 Laps. The 2-hour movie is the first rated-R film Disney has ever made. It is also the first Marvel movie with Fox’s X-men.
In the movie’s opening weekend it made 444.1 million dollars globally and $211 million domestically. That marks the highest earning opening in the month of July of any movie ever and gives Deadpool and Wolverine the title of “6th biggest domestic opening of all time” according to Hollywood Reporter.
The movie cost 200 million dollars to make and made almost 5.43 times that globally. The movie crossed the $1 billion mark in August–a feat only 54 movies ever have achieved according to The Wrap. It’s also the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. It broke a record that was 20 years old.
The movie was fairly well-received by fans and critics. The movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score based on 103 reviews was 80% and the movie scored 8.3 on the IMDB scale.
Deadpool and Wolverine is mostly separated from the other separate Deadpool and Wolverine movies with only a few characters coming back from past movies that don’t really have big parts in the story other than a push for Deadpool. Deadpool and Wolverine is about Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds)trying to save his universe from imminent doom. And a rogue agent from the TVA from the Loki show didn’t help and instead wanted to speed up the death of the universe using a machine called the Time Ripper. So Deadpool had to go through multiple different universes looking for a Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman) to help save his universe.
The movie has also been the highest-earning films in both Jackman’s and Reynold’s careers.
