Mayfield Middle School’s Rock Band performed all of the songs that they learned throughout the corner on May 24th of 2024. The performance altogether was an hour long, due to the insane amount of songs that they had. The concert experience felt unreal, and some felt like they were watching professionals play.
The class, taught by Mr. Scott Face, is made up of many members. Tajah Simon, Harmoni Garrett, Mars Mohamed, Angel Pope, Nevaeh Cummings, and Leah Quinones were the students who sang throughout the whole concert. Chris Dixon, Judge Sheppard, Blue Smith, and Alex Hsieh made up the guitar section, while Adelynn South, Lola Turner, Nevaeh Rogers, and Owen Kerns all played the bass. Nirvana Bhusal, Nathan Swank, Max Timakov, Adam Estrin all played the drums, and Valerie Slaughter, Mars Mohamed, and Nevaeh Cummings made up the rest of the percussion, with instruments like tambourine and egg shakers. And finally, Jakob Mittman and Eva Danilova both played the keyboard.
Since there are so many members, the band is split up into two groups. One of the groups is named Total Solar Eclipse, and the other is named after the director of the rock band’s address. Both groups had a practice concert, a couple hours prior to the concert. They played all of their songs to the students at their school. They played a total of twelve songs, such as “Undone” by Weezer, “Sunshine Of Your Love” by Cream, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, “Hit The Road Jack” by Ray Charles, “Calma” by Pedro Capo, which was sung as a solo by Leah Quinones, “Feel Good Inc.” by Gorillaz, “Duvet” by Boa, “EVIL” by Melanie Martinez, “Fallin’” by Alicia Keys, “Ego Talkin’” by Saint Harrison, “About A Girl” by Nirvana, and their closing song was “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes. All of these songs were unique in their own way, and both bands put their utmost effort towards performing for everyone.
Most of the band members are very proud of how they performed at the concert. The rock band does not plan to do anything else before the end of the school year, and in celebration, they had a party before the concert. To prepare for the concert, the band practiced their songs twice after school hours, and they practiced their songs in front of the students at Mayfield Middle about three hours before the concert.
Members of Rock Band do not need to have previous experience playing instruments. Anyone with an interest in music can be given a useful role with the group.
