Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, came out at midnight on April 19th. This is Swift’s eleventh album (and her fourth album in just four years) and was a surprise double album with 31 tracks. Prior to the release, only 16 tracks had been confirmed.
The album has already broken records. It sold 1.4 million copies in just its first day according to Billboard.
Billboard also noted that “Before Tortured Poets was even released, its countdown page on Spotify broke the streaming service’s record for most pre-saves in history.” The album also broke Spotify’s record as the most-streamed album in a single day. Within 12 hours of its release, it was streamed 300 million times.
The same was true for Apple Music and Amazon Music. According to Forbes, “Apple Music reported the album broke its record for first-day streams of a pop album, and Amazon said it became the most-streamed album on Amazon Music ever on its first day alone.”
It also broke the record for the number of vinyl copies sold. Forbes Magazine noted that 700,000 LPs were sold in the first three days. The record was already held by Swift and her album 1989.
Popular songs on the new album are “Fortnight,” on which Swift collabs withPost Malone, the title track “The Tortured Poets Department,” “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys,” and “Down Bad.”
