The Mayfield Middle School volleyball teams finished their seasons with an eighth-grade record of 10-6 and a seventh-grade record of 11-5.  In the season’s final tournament, the seventh-grade team beat the first-place Kenston Bombers to bring home the championship to Mayfield.

According to the coach, James Diannetti, some players that stood out throughout the entire season for all-around play were Alyssa Mirrosay and Jackie Hasto.  Praise was also given to Payton Gerome and Nadia Gerbasi for consistent serving performance, Taylor Sabbagh for great on-court awareness, Ella Falsone for heads-up play, Maya Webb for being agressive, and Megan Koscis for her first-row defensive blocks.

Two eighth-grade volleyball players, Alyssa Mirrosay and Ella Falsone felt that the team helped them gain confidence and improve their skills.  However Alyssa Mirrosay says, “You can always do better and you can always improve.”

Team members noted that while they did experience some difficulties in the year, the season overall was a success. Alyssa Mirrosay said, “We [the eighth grade volleyball team] just couldn’t snap into our routine quick enough.” Ella Falsone added, “I think the team had to focus on working together and not getting down on ourselves.”

According to Mirrosay, Coach Dianetti always encouraged the eighth grade volleyball team.” Falsone added, “He helped us improve.”

Coach Diannetti remarked, “The eighth-grade team did a great job this year of coming together and playing as a team. They were able to use their strengths to their advantage and successfully avoided allowing any team weaknesses to get in the way of their success.”

He added, “The seventh-grade team had a lot of heart. They struggled through the beginning of the year to be aggressive on the court, but they corrected that throughout the season. It really showed in their tournament performance.”
