Boys’ Basketball Tryouts

Mayfield Middle School is holding boys’ basketball tryouts.

On Wednesday, October 19 (5:15–7:15pm), Thursday, October 20 (5:15–7:15pm) and Friday, October 22 (3:15-5:15pm), eighth-grade tryouts are taking place in the main gym.

Seventh-grade tryouts are scheduled for Tuesday, October 18^th (3:15 – 5:15pm), Wednesday, October 19^th (3:15 – 5:15pm), Thursday, October 20^th (3:15 – 5:15pm) and Monday, October 24^th (3:15 – 5:15pm). Coach Giavenetti is holding these tryouts.

Eighth-grade tryouts are overseen by Mr. Parker, the basketball coach, along with Haley Kocisko. Coach Parker’s first two years of coaching was on the girls’ high school basketball team as JV assistant coach.

According to Coach Parker, between thirty-five to forty-five boys normally try out. Coach Parker told potential players at the informational meeting that he will only be accepting around fifteen people on the team. Athletes will have to demonstrate specific skills in order to make the team: layups and free-throws consistency, good passing, and good ball handling. Athletes are also encouraged to be aggressive, hustle, and work hard.

There will be seven home games this season. The season will run from late October to mid-January. Coach Parker believes that the eighth grade’s biggest competition this year will be our backyard rival, Memorial Middle School.
