The week of September 19, annual Homecoming festivities were held for Mayfield High School and the Mayfield community.  Events included a parade, bonfire, football game, and the homecoming dance.

Parade

The annual homecoming parade was held on September 21 at 6:30. The parade included staff and students from Mayfield High School.

The Pride of Mayfield (the high school marching band) led the parade as they do every year. Some of the people who were featured in the Homecoming parade were Excel Tecc students, football and soccer athletes and coaches, cheerleaders, members of student council from each grade level, and representatives of the Mayfield Education Association teachers’ union. This year’s parade also honored Kayla Hoover, former MMS student who is battling cancer.

  • Kaitlyn Cyncynatus and Trevor Cilik

The Mayfield Village fire truck ended the parade. Parade marchers threw candy to bystanders who were there to enjoy the show.

The parade started by the Cornerstone Community Church and ended by the high school track, where the bonfire was held.

Bonfire

The bonfire was held by the path on the left side of the high school football field. The band kicked it off with a few songs, and then the cheerleaders performed. There was also a drumline.

The homecoming court ladies and gentlemen were recognized and had their pictures taken. The seniors had a pizza sale with the help of Jet’s Pizza.

Game

The homecoming game was on Friday, September 23. Mayfield Wildcats faced the Kenston Bombers and won 31 to 13. The band performed a few songs, and the cheer leaders performed “The Funk.”

At halftime, the members of the homecoming court were recognized on field, accompanied by their parents.

Homecoming Dance

Homecoming was held on Saturday, September 24 at Mayfield High School from 8 to 11 pm, and roughly 600 students attended.

The theme of this year’s homecoming dance was “Shining, Shimmering, Splendid: A Whole New World.” This theme, inspired by Arabian Nights and Aladdin, included genie lamps, golden towered domes, torches with flames, and twinkling gold lights. Tickets were $25 for a single person and $45 per couple.

Those voted from the Sweet 16 to be on the court were as follows:

  • Princess Kaitlyn Cyncynatus and Prince Adam Kuchta
  • Princess Jenna Betley and Prince James Coyne
  • Princess Gina Scampitilla and Prince Luke Razzante
  • Princess Alex Pzyrowski and Prince Julio Lemus
  • Queen Claire Pugel and  King Bram Pritchard

The planning of the dance is overseen by Mrs. Fini-Sanson and Mr. Torda at the high school. They begin the planning process in the summer with the senior class officers.  President Lakshi Mittal, Vice President Jordyn Musi, Secretary Courtney Favazzo, and Treasurer Gina Scampitilla worked several days in the summer to out together decorations with the help of student council members.  When asked what made this year’s homecoming dance special, Mrs. Fini-Sanson responded, “Our officers…worked so hard, and they were really the mastermind behind everything.”
