Captain Marvel: Was it worth the watch, and what does it mean for Avengers End Game?
On March 8, the long-awaited Captain Marvel was released, starring Brie Larson as Carol Denvers, alongside Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Jude Law as Yonn Rogg. Set in 1995, this science fiction movie unveils the new superhero in the Marvel franchise, who will make an appearance in Avengers Endgame, which comes out in the end of April.
Captain Marvel has been doing extremely well. In its first two weeks, the movie made $760 million dollars in global grosses, passing predecessor Marvel movies like The Amazing Spider-Man and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Despite the remarkable earnings from this movie, the reviews and thoughts about the film have been mixed. Some believe that this movie is the worst Marvel movie to date, while others consider the Captain Marvel movie to be the greatest yet.
Personally, I believe that the Captain Marvel film was comedic, action-packed, and included major turning points in the plot. This gave the movie a significant amount of depth and introduced an influential superhero to play a big part in the upcoming Avengers movie. After the previous Avengers movie, half of the world had died by Thanos’ snap; Captain Marvel could be humanity’s only hope to save Thanos’ victims.
Sydney Ference, eighth grader said, “It was enjoyable” She believed the the graphics were extremely good and that the film carried a positive message that you should never give up in the midst of any circumstances.
Also, Alex Vannice said, “It was a great movie” and added that the alien cat was one of the greatest aspects of the movie. He believed that the plot was very good and that the Kree civilization and the war between the Krees and the Scrolls was extremely engaging.
April 26, Avengers End Game will be released. The movie has been hyped since Infinity War hit theaters May of 2018.
Now, many are asking what the events of Captain Marvel mean for the upcoming Marvel End Game. Avengers Infinity War and Captain Marvel‘s respective cut scenes provide the most information about the connection between the two stories.
In case you didn’t stick around to see the ending scenes, at the end of Infinity War, Nick Fury and Maria Hill are seen, about to evaporate from Thanos’ destruction. Just before he turns into dust, he pages Captain Marvel, or Carol Danvers, on a pager that we later find out to be given to him by Captain Marvel for emergencies. This sets up the return of Carol Danvers to Earth for the events of End Game.
Captain Marvel‘s cut scene directly relates to this, showing the Avengers who survived Thanos’ destruction, including Black Widow, Bruce Banner, and Captain America surveying the damage of the events depicted in Infinty War.
More importantly though, the pager that Carol Danvers gave to Nick Fury is seen being analyzed by the Avengers. Then, in the final seconds of the scene, viewers see Captain Marvel herself, back on Earth for End Game.
Now that Captain Marvel has hit the theaters, it has become blatantly clear that Carol Danvers will be in End Game. Marvel Studios going so far as to write out at the end of the movie, “Captain Marvel will be reappearing in Avengers End Game.” in addition to Captain Marvel’s short presence in the newly released, End Game trailer.
While we do know that Carol Danvers will be appearing in End Game, what kind of part will she be playing?
While many previously believed that End Game was going to center around newcomer Captain Marvel leading the fight against Thanos, Marvel recently announced that End Game would be going in a different direction. End Game producer Kevin Feige confirmed that the upcoming movie would center around the original characters from the first Avengers movie, released in 2012.
Many believe that Captain Marvel is the most powerful hero in the Marvel universe. This may be precisely the reason that Marvel Studios decided to cut back on Carol Danvers’ heroics in End Game.
On top of that, Captain Marvel is a very new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first time the movies even mentioned her was a year ago in the cut scene of Infinity War. Because of this, a Captain Marvel-centered End Game would be unsatisfying to many Marvel fans. It simply wouldn’t make sense for Captain Marvel to have a major role in End Game, as this would leave the Marvel characters that we have come to know and love since the first movies on the sidelines. The character of Carol Danvers is too new for her to have a big part in End Game, especially considering it is one of the most anticipated Marvel movies yet.
So, while you can look forward to seeing Carol Danvers in the upcoming movie End Game, don’t expect a lot of her come April 26th.
