Fortnite vs. PUBG

Fortnite+vs.+PUBG

On the internet, people have long-argued over which video games were better out of a similar pool. Right now, Fortnite and  PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battle Grounds) seem to be in the spotlight. Which game is better?

OVERVIEW

Fortnite is a sandbox game of two separate worlds. One is the story mode, which is still co-op online. The objective is a futuristic Earth that is being attacked by a storm. The survivors are under an assault from creatures similar to zombies. Players are able to use weapons they crafted and those found in gold chests hidden around the world. The second part of the game is called Battle Royale. It is a multiplayer game, in which the objective is for your team to be the last ones standing out of 100 other people. You can have have a solo team, a team of two, and team of four. You start on a bus and land in a a city to gather weapons and materials. But the storm pushes you into a circle. The last ones standing get the Victory Royale.

PUBG is a battle royale game intended to be a realistic, military experience. The game takes place in multiple iterations of large landmasses or islands. The game works by slowly encroaching a circle on players, forcing them into smaller and smaller areas and forcing them to fight. A group of 100 battle out until a single person or squad is the last standing. Wins are a lot more rare in PUBG than in other games due to the large amount of players in a lobby. PUBG is very simple but requires a high amount of skill (aiming and ) playing the game.  Because if its high, simple skill ceiling, PUBG excels beyond its competition, including Fortnite.

CONNECTIVITY

A video game must have high frame rates and a strong connection to game servers so that the players can have a smooth experience within the game. PUBG may contain optimization flaws with low average frame-rate and many frame drops, however this is changing. PUBG is being constantly updated to improve the game. Recently that game’s 1.0 update steeply increased frame rates with a port to a new engine, and more is sure to come.

Fortnite almost never lags unless you have a bad connection to the host. Almost every game runs smooth. Lag spikes are extremely rare unless it’s the beginning of the game when 20 other teams are landing with you. There are  many different complaints on the game, but connectivity is never a problem.

GRAPHICS

“Fortnite’s Graphics are so much better than PUBG,” expressed Nick Charlilo a local gamer. Fortnite’s graphics are very cartoonish but still look very realistic. The weapons and buildings are very detailed. Even the grass and flowers around the world look real.

PUBG and Fornite are both based on the same engine (Unreal Engine). While PUBG is less stylized than Fortnite, it does a very good job of having a realistic style. PUBG graphics may not be unique but they are very realistic.

PLAYABILITY

PUBG possesses a learning curve that is strange at best. An inherent property of the battle royale genre is its random nature. PUBG is hard to learn, but the simple mechanics make it fun and easy to dominate once skill has been obtained. Even with high randomness, good players who have at least some useful items will be able to outplay their adversaries.

Fortnite has a very strange learning curve. Fortnite has many ways of being played, and each way is very hard to master. For example, local gamer Collin Bresler said, “You have to know how to build, and timing has to be just right. Your aim also has to be on point because if you don’t know how to play this game correctly you will look like a noob.”

The gameplay of Fortnite is very fun with highs and lows. There are moments of frustration that might leave a player tempted to throw the gaming console out of a window and other moments when it feels like it’s the best day ever.

PUBG and Fornite have very similar gameplay, but PUBG has arguably more satisfying fighting mechanics. Each gun in the game has a weight to it, and the game involves a decent amount of strategy.

In conclusion, PUBG may have some problems but is overall a growing game and a superior experience to many of its competitors.  Yet Fortnite is a more popular choice since it is a very fun game to play. Over the year it has experienced mass popularity. Kids, teenagers and even adults have fun playing this game. Fortnite is a very young game with a lot of potential to become even greater.
