On October 3, Richard Dalcourt, a student at Temple University, was pronounced dead.

Richard Dalcourt was in his first semester at the university and was studying mechanical engineering. He was a lifelong resident of Plainsboro and graduated from West Windsor Plainsboro High School in June, 2017.

Richard Dalcourt fell from a window in the 1940 Residence Hall on Liacouras Walk at about 10:30 am Tuesday morning. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s office claimed that the death of Richard Dalcourt was a suicide. Although there was no real evidence to prove if his death was a suicide, in his obituary, his family did mention some things about depression — which may have caused Richard Dalcourt to take his own life.

Each year, 25 million Americans suffer from depression. Though most of them don’t attempt suicide, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, 90% of the people who die from suicide have depression.

According to his family, Richard “was a quiet, kind, and caring teen who loved video games, action movies and his cat, Heart.” His family is encouraging people with depression and any other kind of mental illness to get help. Counseling is being provided to students and staff at Temple University.
