The Mayfield Middle School wrestling team started their season by taking on sixteen teams at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. They went to this duel without wrestlers in the heavy weight or 205 weight classes, but they worked hard and took 3rd place in their first meet of the 2025 wrestling season.
The team at this first matchup, coached by Matt Dugovics, was Max Sega, Gio Croce, Connor Slife, Caleb Legrone, Drostan Baker, Josh Paradise, TJ Bell, Alessio DiLizio, Dom Delguyd, Marco Augusta, Sam Russo, Jayden Longberry, Eli Eddy, Anthony Saade, Noah Laboy, Dom Tagg, Sal Macauda, and Vinnie Russo.
The team saw another victory against Mentor Memorial & Mentor Shore with a 57 to 33 win.
Over winter break the Wildcats worked hard for victory. They traveled to the West Geauga annual Reindeer Rumble. They placed 3rd out of 16 teams. Their only loss was to Lake Catholic in the semi finals. The MMS wrestlers beat Mentor, Kenston, West Geauga, and Austintown Fitch.
Next, the team competed at the 23rd Annual Green Bulldog Brawl on Saturday January, 4th. The team finished 6th out of 20 teams from all over Ohio. The team had three first-place champions at this event: Daniel Jacobucci at 98, Dominic Jacobucci at 104, and TJ Bell at 116.
On Saturday, January 22nd the Mayfield Wildcat wrestlers traveled to the annual Western Reserve Conference and took 2nd place out of 5 teams. The honorable mentions for this meet were Max Sega, Daniel Jacobucci, Dom Jacobucci, TJ Bell, and Noah Laboy.
The 47th Annual Twinsburg Athletic Boosters Wrestling Tournament wrapped up the season. MMS competed against 33 other teams from Northeast Ohio and finished in Fifth Place. Four Mayfield wrestlers competed in the Finals: Daniel Jacobucci, Dominic Jacobucci, TJ Bell, and Domenic Tagg. Dominic Jacobucci finished victorious as the 2025, 104 pound Champion, and was also voted MVP of the tournament.
Other showings at the tournament were Max Sega, who placed fourth at 80 pounds, and Gio Croce, Jayden Longberry, and Noah Laboy, who were all one match away from placing. Other wrestlers participating included Caleb Legrone, Connor Slife, Drostan Baker, Josh Paradise, Alessio DiLizio, Eli Eddy, Sam Russo, Anthony Saade, and Sal Macauda.
Alessio DiLizio said that his season went amazing for it being his first year, ending the season 12-12 and almost getting wrestler of the week once. Alessio finished 1-2 in his last meet going up against a state qualifier and “rag-dolling” him until the pin. Alessio lost the last two matches but ended his season by pinning a state qualifier.
Tyler Bell also said that his season went amazing, ending with a personal record of 20-4. Tyler said that his last meet he went 3-0 and pinned everyone. Tyler was also a state qualifier.
The 2025 Wrestling State Championships will take place on Sunday, March 15 and 16 at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio, where Bell will represent Mayfield.
